Bangkok men's onsen visit|MACHIYA ONSEN The nighttime atmosphere is a bit odd… Soak to relax and see if you might strike up a connection.

I'm in Bangkok for a few days and a friend mentioned a place that's been getting some chatter recently — MACHIYA ONSEN.
It’s a Gentlemen Onsen (Japanese-style men's hot spring), located near MRT Sutthisan Exit 3, about a 1–2 minute walk away.
r />I figured I had nothing going on in the evening, so I went to check it out and soaked a bit to relax.
r />How to get there
r />Take the MRT to Sutthisan, exit at Exit 3 and walk a short distance — you’ll see it.
The exterior is actually quite low-key, without flashy neon signs, and looks a bit like a small Japanese onsen facility.
r />When you enter, you register and pay at the front desk; the overall process is similar to other onsens.
The staff were polite and gave a brief explanation of the facilities before I went in.
r />The place itself
r />The space isn’t huge, but the cleanliness and atmosphere are pretty good.
It has a minimalist Japanese style, the lighting isn’t too bright, and the vibe is quite relaxing.
r />Facilities include:
r />Onsen pools
r />Sauna (Sauna)
r />Steam room (Steam room)
r />Shower area
r />Small rest area
r />The onsen water temperature is comfortable — many people soak first and then go to the sauna.
r />Observations about the crowd
r />I got there around 9pm and there were actually a bit more people than I expected.
r />The crowd is a mix of:
r />Local Thai people
r />Japanese travelers
r />Other Asian visitors
r />Most people seemed to be between their 20s and 40s, and many were in good shape (you know what I mean).
r />Some people are just there to relax in the bath, but others linger in the sauna or by the pool, so the vibe can be a little subtle/ambiguous.
r />Occasionally you’ll catch someone making eye contact, then quietly go back to soaking.
It feels a bit like —
Everyone is very relaxed, but also kind of observing each other.
r />Recommended times
r />If it’s your first time, these are the times I’d suggest:
r />17:00–19:00
Fewer people — really just soaking and relaxing.
r />20:00–22:00
More people start to show up and the atmosphere becomes livelier.
r />After 22:30
Some forum users say it’s easier to “run into stories” at this time (i.e., interesting encounters),
but I didn’t stay that late myself.
r />Overall impression
r />Overall, Machiya Onsen is a pretty relaxed gentlemen’s onsen.
r />If you just want to soak and use the sauna to relax, the environment is pretty good. If you enjoy places where the nighttime atmosphere is a bit suggestive/subtle, you might find it interesting.
r />Sometimes travel is like this —
Take a soak, work up a sweat,
and you might even run into a little bit of serendipity.
